Algerian wide-man Nadir Belhadj is keen to leave Premier League side Portsmouth, according to France Football. The 27-year-old, who had spent his entire career in France before moving across the English channel, believes now is the right time to exit the south coast club.
Portsmouth, who have been suffering under a transfer embargo, and have at times struggled to pay their players’ wages on time this season, could be willing to let Belhadj leave, for a price.
In the running for Belhadj two clubs seem to be at the front of the queue according to L’Equipe. These are Birmingham City and Portuguese giants Benfica. It is not known which the Algerian himself would prefer.
Under contract until 2013 at Fratton Park, it is believed Portsmouth would ask for €3.5M for Belhadj.
