Japanese international Shunsuke Nakamura, who moved from Scottish giants Celtic to La Liga side Espanyol in the summer, has been speculated to be moving back to Japan after failing to make a breakthrough in the squad. The Club’s sporting director German de la Cruz, however, has expressed his intention to keep the 31-year-old in Spain and give the extra time that is necessary for some to integrate to a new system.

“He hasn’t fit in as well as we would’ve liked yet, but we haven’t given up. We want to make sure we get 100% from him,” de la Cruz said to the club’s website. "We have no plans to loan, sell or let him go. We hope he will get back to his impressive form."

Nakamura has managed only 14 appearances for the Barcelona-based club so far, and has been made to be content with a place on the bench as well – a far cry from his situation as a key player for Celtic.
