According to ESPN Soccernet, Frank Lampard, who has just won the Football Writers’ Association’s annual award, is urging Chelsea’s management to ensure midfielder Joe Cole remains at the club. Contract negotiations with the 28-year-old have been ongoing since 2008, with the player still yet to sign an extension. His current deal runs until only the end of the season.

"Joe’s a fantastic player and I really hope we keep him, and I think that goes for everyone at the club,” said Lampard. "He adds something different for us,He can create things and beat his man and those type of things don’t come along very often. Unfortunately he’s been out injured for the last year at least really but was player of the year for us just before that.”

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is believed to be keeping a close eye on Cole’s availability, with Manchester City believed to be interested in the player as well.
