David Beckham, whose arrival to AC Milan coincided with an impressive four-game win streak for the Italian giants, has spurred on the rivalry on the impending and intriguing Manchester Derby in the Carling Cup semi-final later in the evening, by stating the mega-rich City will never surpass United’s stature.

"City will never be bigger than United. Money does a lot for a club and a team, but being successful and being one of the most recognised clubs in the world doesn’t come from the money. It’s about history. There aren’t many clubs that can boast the history of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona or AC Milan,” the former England captain said, as reported by ESPN Soccernet.

With a Michael Owen goal late – very late – in stoppage time handing City a heartbreaking loss at Old Trafford the last time the two sides met, the Citizens will undoubtedly be out to redeem the defeat in front of their Eastlands crowd.
