Chelsea’s Juliano Belletti is surprised he is being linked with a move to his native Brazil, with Flamengo rumoured to be interested in his services. The 33-year-old utility player has grown increasingly more important to the club with the African Cup of Nations stripping the side of the likes of John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, Belleti expressed his astonishment at the link, “Flamengo? This is a surprise to me, especially as Chelsea have already said that they’re not going to release me in January.”

The former Barcelona man joined the London club in 2007 after injuries and competition for places forced him out of the Catalan side. Although he does not play regularly, the 2002 World Cup winner is considered a vital piece of the Chelsea squad.
