Manchester City’s disgruntled star Robinho is edging closer to a return to his former club Santos, after the Brazilian side’s President claimed the deal was “98%” to go through. The holder of the record for most expensive British transfer at £32.4M, the former Real Madrid standout has been largely unimpressive in his second season in the Premier League.

"It is 98% sure,” the Santos President told Arena SporTV. “We will move closer on Wednesday. Sao Paulo and Benfica also want him as he is an outstanding player. But with the talks we’ve had with Manchester City, and with the player I am optimistic he will return Santos.”

It is believed the only matter keeping the negotiations from going through is the agreement on wages. With Santos incapable of paying Robinho’s extremely high wages, a certain compromise between the clubs and Robinho will have to be reached
