Sparingly used Barcelona star Maxwell received significant praise for his impressive performance in the 2-1 win against Getafe at the weekend. The left-back was deployed in the unfamiliar right side of the defensive back four, but adapted to his new position smoothly.

With so many quality players in the squad, the former Inter Milan player believes Barcelona will have no problems coping with the sudden defensive crisis the club have been dealt with, saying to fcbarcelona.com, “We have a squad capable of overcoming this. It’s always hard to lose quality players, they’ve all been playing regularly too, but we all know we have the depth of squad to manage”.

The Brazilian defender has made just ten appearances for the La Liga champions since his move in the summer, but with Eric Abidal and Dani Alves both out, stands to increase his appearance rate significantly.
