Milan’s David Beckham has compared Wayne Rooney to team-mate Ronaldinho ahead of their meeting with Manchester United on Tuesday. When asked if Rooney was like the Brazilian star Beckham replied "without a doubt".

The former Man Utd man went on, "I’ve always said Wayne is one of the best goalscorers in football".

Ronaldinho for his part has improved his consistency this season but is still short of the form which saw him crowned World Player of the Year on two occasions. Beckham though remains focused on helping Milan to see off the challenge of his former club and progress further in the Champions League.

"It’s one of the biggest games for me personally" said the former England captain. "But the most important thing is the team going through and beating United, which I hope we do".
