Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has revealed that his side’s victory over Barcelona at the weekend was the result of the team’s strong work ethic and determination to improve. The Uruguayan international also believes the remarkable result will be the perfect jumping point for the struggling side to get back on track and eventually win the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla.

“I hope we start getting more support, like we did against Barcelona. The team had a great performance, pushed hard and managed to beat a great team. It was a spectacular match,” Forlan said in Spanish paper Marca. He also revealed his cup ambitions, claiming, “I want to play the final at the Bernabeu, so we can remain in Madrid and not and not have to travel. I dream of scoring the match-winning goal in the final of the Copa del Rey.”

Atletico Madrid, who finished fourth last season, have had a surprisingly poor domestic campaign so far, sitting 11th in the league.
