Following Manchester United’s impressive 3-2 win over AC Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday night, manager Sir Alex Ferguson was understandably full of praise for in-form Wayne Rooney, who bagged a second-half brace to sink the Italian giants.
"He’s in devastating form, they could not handle him second half. He was marvellous," said United boss Ferguson. "What we said he has to do is improve his goalscoring and now he’s doing it. His basic ability is as good as the players you talk about (Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo). He must be regarded alongside these players."
Manchester United were cruising 3-1 for most of the second half, but a late Clarence Seedorf goal ensured the tie was kept from being a virtual formality when the second leg is played at Old Trafford in March.
