Villarreal midfielder and Arsenal great Robert Pires believes Cesc Fabregas will only move from The Gunners to Barcelona if he is certain to have a particular role. The Frenchman believes manager Arsene Wenger will face a challenge keeping his prised captain, but insists the young Spanish maestro’s move to Camp Nou is far from certain.

Barcelona have a smart president and if they want a transfer, they can get it,” Pires said to Catalan daily Sport. “In Arsenal however, Fabregas is captain and Wenger is full of confidence in him and that’s important, because he knows he will play. In Barça it is more difficult. The manager has to choose [from a number of talented midfielders], and it is complicated.”

Although Fabregas is clearly settled at Arsenal, the club may face tough competition to keep their star player should they continue to fail to win any silverware. The Gunners have not won any trophies since winning the FA Cup in 2005.
