Aston Villa’s injury prone striker John Carew has found an extended run of appearances hard to come by this season, battling fitness problems, and proving only useful as an impact player off the bench. After scoring a brace in a rare start against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup however, the Norwegian believes he is back at his devastating best.

I’ve been injured and I’ve been working really hard to get back in shape and against Palace I felt really good – even after the game. My legs felt light,” Carew said in the league’s official website. "I feel I’m starting to reach my peak form again. I really needed that game to get the last bit of fitness back after a couple of setbacks.”

Carew will be hoping his impressive performance against Palace will warrant a start against Manchester United in the Carling Cup final on Sunday.
