Everton defender Phil Jagielka, who recently fully recovered from a cruciate ligament injury, insists the club still have plenty to play for despite being in the innocuous tenth position in the Premier League. The 27-year-old has managed 90 minutes in the last two matches, giving David Moyes’s side much needed reinforcements.

"The gaffer’s pulled us all in – we’re not going to want to fizzle out for the rest of the season,” Jagielka said on the league’s official website. “It’s a test of character and the last thing we want to do is mope around, finish tenth and then use the excuse that we had a bad start. It is a case of being in a good position, kick on and we do have a lot to play for."

Everton have suffered two straight defeats after their impressive wins against Chelsea and Manchester United, making their weekend’s match even more important as they attempt to make something of their slumping season.
