Spanish international Xavi Hernandez has come to the defence of under-fire France player and Barcelona team-mate Thierry Henry, who has found his usual high level of play difficult to capture in the current campaign.

It surprises me that many people say that he deserves to be in the reserves of the France World Cup squad. Those who say that want to harm him,” Xavi said on France Football. “He’s always an example, in games or exercises, he is very helpful. I think there is just too much importance being place on the fact that he is not playing.”

Henry has managed just three goals in 22 appearances for Barcelona this season, a far cry from his 26-goal haul in the last campaign.
