Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill is keen for his side to see off Reading in today’s FA Cup clash in order to go some way towards erasing the pain the club still feel from last weekend’s League Cup final loss.

While O’Neill is still living with the pain of defeat and has had to endure it throughout the week, he thinks that those of his players who travelled on international duty in midweek "will have had at least a different set of companions to speak to, to talk about things."

The Villa boss explained to the club’s official site that the FA Cup match is something he sees as an important game and not something to be approached in the usual way.

"I won’t treat it as a normal game – it is an FA Cup quarter-final."
