Bayer Leverkusen were finally beaten in the Bundesliga at the weekend, losing to Nurnberg 3-2. Manager Jupp Heynckes steered the side to a remarkable 24 matches without defeat, but failed to recover in time after going three goals down early in the second-half.

That was a bitter defeat for us. Nurnberg deserved the win given our first-half performance which lacked commitment and passion. You can’t expect to be successful if you play like that,” Heynckes said in the club’s official website. “We did fight back in the last half hour and scored against a well-organised defence. But Nurnberg fought and played better than we did.”

With the defeat, Bayer Leverkusen have slipped to third in the Bundesliga standings, behind leaders Bayern Munich and Schalke.
