The light at the end of the tunnel was finally appearing for Manchester United’s long-term injury victim Owen Hargreaves after manager Sir Alex Ferguson mentioned last week that he would be playing for the reserves. Hopes were high that the midfielder was finally on his way back, but those expectations have once again been dashed.

Hargreaves was pulled out for the reserves match that was to be played today, with the club stating that the game’s timing was not aligned with his training programme. Although it was emphasised that the former Bayern Munich man had not suffered a setback, his sudden removal from the line-up has the Man Utd faithful fearing for the worst.

The England international has suffered a torrid time on the sidelines battling his knee problems. Hargreaves has not played since September of 2008.
