AC Milan have suffered a huge defensive blow with the news that Alessandro Nesta has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Despite crashing out of the Champions League to Manchester United, Milan remain in the hunt for Serie A, and as such Nesta will be a big loss.

The former Lazio defender will undergo surgery on Monday to treat a ruptured tendon in his right knee. While confidence is high that he should make a recovery, Nesta is also a doubt for Italy’s World Cup squad due to the injury.

AC Milan face Chievo Verona today, knowing that victory would cut Inter’s lead at the top of Serie A to just a single point.
