Liverpool put on a rare impressive display against Portsmouth on Monday, a performance that manager Rafael Benitez claims was down to the return of key players in his squad. The Merseyside giants will be delighted to be getting fresh bodies back into the line-up, especially with two massive matches looming – Lille in midweek and Manchester United on Sunday.

"You know we’ve had too many injuries to important players this season. We’ve had Johnson, Gerrard, Agger, Torres, Yossi and Aurelio injured. These are players with quality and when you put them all together and they’re fully fit then the team will play much better,” Benitez said on the club’s official website. "We saw against Portsmouth three or four of these players together and you saw good play.”

The Reds are currently fifth in the league, just a point behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, but having already played a game more.
