Liverpool have been handed some good news ahead of their two crucial matches against Lille and Manchester United, with word that goalkeeper Pepe Reina is very near to extending his deal with the club. The Spanish shot-stopper has been an outstanding performer for the Merseyside giants in recent years, and his continued presence will surely be a benefit to the struggling side.

"I am really close," Reina told reporters at Anfield. "You will find out more in the next few weeks or month. I am happy here, I think the club is happy with me too and I see no problem at all in signing a new deal. It is a matter of time and I will sort it out in a few weeks. We are close."

Reina’s commitment to Liverpool will surely have Rafa Benitez hoping other players will share the same confidence in the club in a troubling time.
