Aston Villa could only manage a 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton at the weekend, but manager Martin O’Neill was still full of praise of Ashley Young, who he felt was once again the standout performer.

I think he has been great – but not just against Wolves,” O’Neill said on the club’s official website. “That was a wonderful performance by him but he is the one that drove us on brilliantly against Reading in the second half and he and James [Milner] have been exceptional the last few months.”

Carew salvaged a draw for Villa with a brace, but O’Neill believes it was Young who rallied the team back with his clever wing play and spot on deliveries into the box. The 24-year-old has made 13 assists already this season, just one shy of his total in the last campaign.
