Defence has been a key factor in Manchester United’s impressive form as of late, keeping consecutive clean sheets in the last three games. After five minutes in the match against Liverpool however, Fernando Torres had the Old Trafford crowd reeling and Rio Ferdinand and company facing a huge test – one they passed with flying colours.

"We’ve been defending very well of late so to concede a goal after five minutes in such a big game was disappointing," Ferdinand admitted to the club’s official website. "But after the first goal I thought we got to grips with Liverpool and stopped the supply to Torres. The way we came back, picked ourselves up and took the game to Liverpool, speaks volumes of the talent we have in our squad."

Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic looked solid once again after their early slip-up, proving that the Red Devils’ defence is a different level when they play together.
