Aston Villa missed a chance to overtake Liverpool in the standings last night, as they had to settle for a draw with struggling Sunderland. The stalemate leaves the Villains in seventh place, four points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently sitting in the coveted final Champions League qualifying spot.

Tonight obviously I feel were points dropped,” Villa manager Martin O’Neill said on the club’s official website. “Manchester City lost and Tottenham will be delighted. Two of us have dropped points and they have got through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup. We all have tough fixtures, none tougher than us this Saturday. But honestly there will be twists and turns. It is tight."

Aston Villa now have to regroup and face Chelsea, who are desperate to get their title push back on track.
