Carlo Ancelotti got his wish for a win granted last night, with Chelsea hammering hapless Portsmouth 5-0. The victory propels The Blues back into second place, just a single point away from leaders Manchester United, who they play next weekend, in what could be a title-deciding match.

“We needed to have this performance,” Ancelotti acknowledged on the club’s official website. “We needed to win, we did this and I hope the bad moment is finished. We have to wait until Saturday [against Aston Villa] because that is a very important test for us. If this test can be passed, this moment is finished.”

Chelsea will face an Aston Villa side that will be eager to bounce back from two consecutive draws against bottom-half of the table teams.
