Marseille coach Didier Deschamps has spoken of his huge joy after the south coast club defeated Bordeaux in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue. A comfortable 3-1 win allowed Deschamps’ side to pick up their first major trophy for 17 years, far too long for one of the giants of French football.

"For many people who have followed Marseille over the year, and God knows there are many, there is immense joy [at the win]." said Deschamps.

Marseille had gone into the match as underdogs against a Bordeaux side which has led Ligue 1 for much of the season and are still alive in the Champions League. For Deschamps, plotting their downfall, and being 3-0 to the good at one point, is a huge feather in his cap.

Now Marseille turn their sights to overhauling those in front of them in the league, and perhaps, just three points off the top, a title challenge is possible.
