Manchester United face a nervous wait on the knock Wayne Rooney picked up against Bayern Munich in the club’s Champions League quarter-final tie last night. The England striker was clearly in discomfort as his right ankle took a blow near the end of the game.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told the club’s official website that it was still too soon to say how severe the knock was.

"We’ll just have to wait and see how his ankle is [Wednesday]. Hopefully it’s not too serious. He might be doubtful for Saturday [against Chelsea] but we don’t know for sure."

The Old Trafford giants will be hoping that Rooney is fit for what could indeed be a Premier League title decider against Chelsea on Saturday.
