Harry Redknapp has told his club’s supporters that a trip to Sunderland was always going to be tough given the players Spurs had missing. The North London side suffered a 3-1 defeat in the North East yesterday as their top four ambitions took a big blow.

"We had a lot of players out" said Redknapp to the club’s official site, "we looked like an open team and it was always going to be an open game. It was almost a case of seeing if we could outscore them."

But outscore Sunderland the visitors could not and Spurs face a daunting run-in to the end of the Premier League campaign. With meetings to come against Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City, Redknapp’s team face an uphill battle to secure Champions League football for next season.
