Real Madrid returned to the top of the La Liga standings with their 2-0 win over Racing Santander on Sunday, making it their 12th consecutive victory in the league. With El Clasico looming, Los Blancos could not have entered the crunch match against Barcelona in better form.

“We need to do what we do on a daily basis in order to win next Saturday. We cannot lose our identity. We will seek the victory and whoever makes the fewest mistakes will win,” manager Manuel Pellegrini said on the club’s official website. "Both of us won our matches this weekend. We are up against a great opponent, but I am sure we will win if we focus and stick to our football."

The potent partnership of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain was in full effect again at the weekend, with both bagging a goal each.
