West Ham United, who are in the thick of the relegation battle, earned an impressive point against high-flying Everton at the weekend, encouraging manager Gianfranco Zola to believe his side have what it takes to remain in the Premier League.

"I wouldn’t say the last five games are a matter of life or death but it is very close,” the Italian tactician said on the club’s official website. “We know what football is like. We are determined to fight until the end. We are not going to leave anything in the bag. It is a great encouragement for me and everybody."

The Hammers are currently just a point above the relegation zone, and have played a game more than Hull City, who are currently in the dreaded cut-off spot.
