Bayern Munich were looking likely to have a horrible season after a disastrous start to the campaign, but things couldn’t be anymore different at present. The German giants are currently top of the Bundesliga standings and through to the Champions League semi-finals, a change in fortune that manager Louis van Gaal puts down to the squad’s need for time to adjust to his manner of coaching.

My way of working was something the players had to get used to," the 58-year-old said on UEFA’s official website. "I demand they use their brains because I believe football is played largely in the mind. I’m very direct and emotional, and I make corrections immediately."

Although the adjustment period left the club in a worrying position early in the season, Bayern are undoubtedly in good hands under van Gaal, as the side look like the strongest they’ve been in recent times.
