Fears that the giant cloud of volcanic ash could stop Barcelona’s meeting with Inter in the Champions League next week have been played down in the Spanish press.

Coach Josep Guardiola had been hopeful of flying his team out to Milan, but Barcelona airport has been closed. With the closure expected to last at least another 24 hours and perhaps longer, Barcelona may not be able to leave by plane.

Catalan daily Sport reports though that Guardiola is prepared to take his players to Milan by coach and the club are monitoring the situation closely, keen to make any journey by road as soon as possible in order to avoid tiring the players ahead of such a crucial game.

Barcelona’s coach trip to Italy could even begin as soon as this afternoon.
