Aston Villa have confirmed that youngster Fabian Delph will be out with a long-term injury after scans showed he ruptured ligaments in his knee. The 18-year-old, who has featured in 15 matches for the Villains this season, suffered the unfortunate setback in training,

A statement on the club’s official website read, “Fabian Delph suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in his left knee in training on Saturday at Bodymoor Heath. This has been confirmed by clinical examinations and scans. Fabian will undergo ACL reconstruction at the appropriate time in the near future and it is expected that he will sidelined for a period of up to eight months. All Villa supporters will wish Fabian a full and as speedy as possible recovery.”

Delph was acquired from Leeds United in August of last year, and last played for Villa against Bolton Wanderers earlier in the month.
