There has been plenty of debate regarding who should pair Manchester United’s prolific Wayne Rooney in the England attack, but legend Alan Shearer believes there should only be one striker being considered – Aston Villa’s Emile Heskey.

"I think Emile will be Capello’s choice because the Rooney/Heskey pairing was so successful in qualifying,” the Newcastle hero said on the Villa’s official website. “I would agree with that selection, too, although there will inevitably be a lot of debate about Emile’s involvement.”

Stats show that Heskey has had a mediocre season with the Villains this season, with only five goals to account for. But what the former Liverpool man lacks in scoring, he makes up for in the build up, where he has proven priceless for the industrious Rooney in England’s qualifying.
