With the Old Trafford awards ceremony to be held tonight, manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Wayne Rooney will be facing stiff competition from his team-mates to win the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year, and the Players’ Player of the Year awards.

"Patrice Evra – he’s bound to be up there, no doubt about that,” the legendary Scot said on the club’s official website. “I think Darren Fletcher’s matured into a top player for us and Antonio Valencia has had a great season, he’s done very, very well in his first season at the club."

Although the young Englishman is heavily tipped to land both awards, it is clear who Ferguson views as those who have had exceptional seasons in a tricky campaign for the adjusting Red Devils.
