Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry is set to receive the full report of the status of his injured right ankle today. The former Aston Villa captain suffered the problem in the Blues’ 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, in the match that ensured the mega-rich club did not qualify for the Champions League next season.

England supporters will certainly be holding their breath in anticipation of the reports from the specialists, as Barry has made himself into a regular fixture in the Three Lions squad under Fabio Capello. The 29-year-old has featured in eight of the side’s qualifying matches, and has won 36 caps in total.

The England manager is expected to name a provisional 30-man squad on Tuesday, before naming the official 23 players flying to South Africa after friendlies against Mexico and Japan.
