According to transfermarkt.de, former England boss Steve McClaren has been confirmed, after plenty of speculation, as the new manager of Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga side’s announcement has confirmed constant rumours claiming the triumphant FC Twente coach was set to jump ship for Germany sooner rather than later.
Having just guided Twente to the club’s first ever Eredivisie title, McClaren is off to tackle bigger challenges in the Bundesliga. The former Middlesbrough boss’ job is to bring the 2009 league champions Wolfsburg, back to their glory days.
Last year’s titleholders finished a disappointing eighth in the league standings this season, and replacing interim coach Lorenz-Günther Köstner with Steve McClaren is Wolfsburg’s first step to getting back on track.
