If Bayern Munich are to win the Champions League final against Inter this coming Saturday they will have to do so without mercurial Frenchman Franck Ribery.

The German giants had been hoping that CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) would overturn the three match ban handed out after Ribery was sent off in the first leg of the semi-final clash with Lyon. Now though their hopes have been dashed.

It is understood that CAS has thrown out the case and refused to lift the ban imposed by UEFA. Ribery had been hoping that CAS would reduce the three match ban to one single game – as is standard for a red card – and as this had been served in the second leg against Lyon he would be free to play in Madrid.

The decision means that Bayern will be more reliant than ever on their other impressive winger Arjen Robben and must hope he shines against Inter.
