To add to the good news of manager Louis van Gaal confirming his commitment to the club for at least another season, Bayern Munich supporters will be breathing a collective sigh of relief with word that star winger Franck Ribery will “certainly” remain with the squad until 2011 at the very least.

What is 100% certain is, he [Ribery] will play next season at Bayern, because our contract ends in 2011,” club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed on France Football. “What is being discussed right now with his agent, in fact, is a contract extension, and I am optimistic enough that a solution will be solved.”

Earlier in the season, Ribery was widely assumed to be leaving Bayern Munich in the summer. But with the club’s unexpected success both domestically and in Europe, the Frecnh international could well be tempted to remain with the reborn Bundesliga giants.
