According to reports on Spanish paper Marca, Real Madrid were offered the chance to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but flatly refused the striker’s services. The unexpected opportunity came about shortly after Barcelona sealed the signing of David Villa from Valencia, which put the Swedish international’s position at the club under threat.

Mino Raiola, the striker’s agent, upon finding out that the Villa deal had been concluded, approached Real about the possibility of his client making the switch to Barca’s archrivals. Despite the intriguing prospect of Ibrahimovic’s arrival, the Los Blancos management flatly disapproved the offer.

The arrival of Villa has undoubtedly ruffled the feathers of the towering front man, who did not enjoy as successful a debut season as he would have liked at Barca.
