Fernando Torres has allayed fears that he may miss the World Cup by claiming he is hoping to play a part in one of Spain’s friendly matches before the tournament kicks off in June. The talented striker was plagued with injuries last season, and needed to have surgery on a troublesome knee back in April.

Just around a month after his operation though, the Spanish international is already convinced there is no chance he will miss the massive tournament in South Africa, where his involvement would be a big boost to his nation’s ambitions for World Cup glory.

Torres was a vital player for Spain in their 2008 European Championships triumph, which led to his inclusion in the competitions Team of the Tournament. La Roja’s injury concerns have been easing lately, with word that sidelined Cesc Fabregas has returned to full training.
