Bordeaux have confirmed the appointment of Jean Tigana as manager of the club, after reports revealed an announcement was imminent. The 54-year-old replaces Laurent Blanc, who is set to become France manager after Les Bleus wraps up their World Cup campaign.

The former Olympique Lyon, Monaco, Fulham and Besiktas coach is a player with legendary status at Bordeaux, where he won three league titles and two French cups in eight years with the club. He was also an accomplished French international, who won the 1984 European Championships on home soil.

Tigana will be tasked with the job of taking Bordeaux back to the pinnacle of the French football, after the club finished sixth last season, just a year after being crowned Ligue 1 champions.
