FC Porto have confirmed that they have parted company with coach Jesualdo Ferreira. The 64-year-old has paid the price for Porto's failure to challenge for the Portuguese title this season, with the club finishing in third spot, eight points behind champions Benfica.

Ferreira can consider himself hard done to, as the coach had led Porto to the previous three league titles. However, one bad season has been enough to ensure the boardroom at Porto consider a new man for the role.

The 64-year-old took over at Porto in 2006, moving from Braga where he had garnered much praise for building a team to compete with the country's giants. Ironically it is Braga who pipped Porto for second this season.
