According to Spanish television station TV3, Barcelona are negotiating the possible signing of Juan Mata from Valencia. The 22-year-old winger is understood to be a player admired by manager Josep Guardiola, and could be the second player acquired from cash-strapped Los Che, who sold David Villa to the Catalan club in May.

The acquisition of the young Spanish international depends heavily on the sale of Zlatan Ibrahimovic however, who is still being rumoured to be on his way out after a mediocre first season at Barca.

Although the Swedish striker has expressed his preference to return to Italy rather than make the move to the Premier League, he continues to attract the most attention from the English clubs. Should a deal push through to sell the disgruntled 28-year-old, expect the speedy winger Mata to follow former team-mate Villa to the Camp Nou.
