Despite speculation that Barcelona may move for Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano to replace Premier League bound Yaya Toure, the Catalan giants are weighing up a deal for Bordeaux enforcer Alou Diarra.
Diarra, who himself enjoyed a spell with Liverpool from 2002 until 2004, has impressed at Bordeaux, helping the Ligue 1 side to dominate the midfield during games and win back possession quickly when it is lost. Diarra’s performances have not gone unnoticed by a number of clubs.
Le Parisien believe that Diarra, who is also believed to be a target for French champions Marseille, does not wish to remain within Ligue 1 and would welcome a move to Spain. Sevilla were interested in the 28-year-old’s signature, but his salary expectations mean it is only Barcelona or Real Madrid who could realistically expect to sign the Frenchman.
