Having confirmed his move to Manchester City on Saturday, Jerome Boateng is already looking forward to training with the club’s raft of top players. The 21-year-old will meet up with his new team-mates after the World Cup, where he will be representing Germany.

I can’t wait to work with so many top players and show what I can do and become a better player,” Boateng said on the club’s official website. “I believe my strengths are my pace and reading of the game. I can play at full back on either side but I prefer the central defensive position.”

With the arrival of Boateng, Man City have addressed a key weakness in the squad that was exposed last season. The Citizens were clearly bothered by the absence of Joleon Lescott late in the campaign due to injury, and have done well to swiftly acquire quality cover in the backline in the summer window.
