Olympique Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has all but admitted defeat in his club’s quest to lure star midfielder Yoann Gourcuff away from Bordeaux. The talented 23-year-old is understood to be valued at around €25M to €30M, a price that Aulas admits on French paper L’Equipe, is outside of Lyon’s capabilities.

The French international is understood to be looking for a move away from his current side in order to compete in the Champions League next season, after Bordeaux went in free fall in the Ligue 1 standings late in the season, consequently failing to qualify.

Manchester City, who would have no problem meeting Gourcuff’s valuation, are also understood to be chasing the coveted midfielder, but the English side will have to persuade the Frenchman to agree to move to Eastlands despite them missing out on Champions League qualification last season.
