France star Yoann Gourcuff has said he believes that the constant noise from the vuvuzelas is having a negative affect on players’ performances at the World Cup. Gourcuff’s team-mate Patrice Evra has already gone on record as saying that vuvuzelas wake him up early in the morning and disturb his sleep.

"We don’t get along with the noise in the stadium", said Gourcuff. "This is the first time that this has happened and we could only communicate through gestures. I could not even hear what I told my team-mate."

The vuvuzelas are a constant feature of this South African World Cup, but they risk alienating the local supporters from the very players they are supposed to be encouraging. TV pundits have also complained that vuvuzela noise is interrupting their sleep at hotels as locals blow the trumpets night and day.
