Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is in South Africa to enjoy the World Cup, but he took time to speak his mind about the exclusion of his player Theo Walcott from the England line up, a decision he admits “was a big surprise” to him.

He has no worries about the young winger recovering from the disappointment however, even saying to the club’s official website that Walcott will be even stronger next season: “I’ve had a little text exchange with Theo and he will bounce back. In fact I think it will make him even more determined for next season. He is a very level-headed guy and very strong."

With Aaron Lennon, Shaun Wright-Phillips and James Milner looking unimpressive in England’s opener against the United States, Fabio Capello’s decision to exclude Walcott from the squad has come under question once again.
