Nicolas Anelka has inked a new deal with Chelsea to extend his time at the Stamford Bridge club until 2012. Having endured a troubled World Cup campaign with France, which saw the striker sent home early due to a foul mouthed rant at coach Raymond Domenech, the news is a boost for Anelka.

At 31 years of age, it is likely Chelsea could be the France forward’s last club and Anelka has expressed his delight at ensuring his stay with the Blues. Often a journeyman striker throughout his footballing career, Anelka seems to have finally found a home at Stamford Bridge and played an important part in the club’s Premier League triumph last season.

While the striker’s club future is clear, his international prospects with France remain less so, as Paris digests a truly appalling World Cup display.
