England skipper Steven Gerrard and manager Fabio Capello have assured the country’s fans that Wayne Rooney is ready to break his goalscoring duck at the World Cup when he faces Germany in their last 16 clash later today. As England have struggled, so has Rooney, with the Manchester United man not yet able to find the back of the net in South Africa.

Gerrard commented at the pre-match press conference that Rooney "played really well in the last game and looks really sharp in training". While Capello added: "Rooney is training very well, he is scoring a lot of goals in training and we hope tomorrow will be the same."

Tipped by many to finish with the Golden Boot award, Rooney needs to begin to find his scoring boots sooner rather than later should England have aspirations of not only beating Germany, but then progressing through a very difficult series of games to the final.
